360 News | Gears of War
After gushing over Microsoft's demo of Gears of War yesterday - it's one of the most exciting shooters we've seen for ages - today we finally came to grips with the game by bashing out some multiplayer action. Shepherded into a special room by Microsoft, away from the mad bustle of the E3 shop floor, we were set up in a 4-vs-4 deathmatch. And we kicked ass. Developer Epic calls Gears of War a "stop and pop" game, because of the huge emphasis on taking cover from a constant stream of attacks. ...

DS News | Elite Beat Agents
Don't ask us why, but music games seem to have more personality, on the whole, than just about any others. Without a big bulky guy with a gun or a group of perky teens out to save the world to rely on, things seem to get weird - fast. Whether or not the songs are original or top hits, if there's a story you're guaranteed to be swimming in bizarre characters, styling art and that rarest of things in games: an actual sense of humor. Elite Beat Agents follows this path beautifully. Telling the ...

360 News | Madden NFL 07
NFL Football is a game where linebackers routinely mow down scrawny-but-nimble defense backs. In previous outings, Madden NFL has focused almost too much on the passing game and quarterback mobility. That's all changing with Madden 2007 for Xbox 360. Electronics Arts will finally add some bone-crunching realism. By pressing B on the controller at the start of a play, you can control any linebacker for a few seconds to create running lanes. Or, you can switch to a wide-out receiver and set up ...

360 News | Army of Two
As a member of a privately held, incorporated military force, it's up to you to take the toughest jobs and blast your way through them. Our private viewing of Army of Two brought us into the bipolar world of tactics times two. Based strictly on a premise where two warriors are better than one, Army of Two is all about teamwork. You and a friend (or EA's "partner artificial intelligence" that can sub-in for a pal) rapid-fire your way through contemporary settings in hotspots that conventional, ...

PSP News | Gangs of London
You wouldn't know it from the title, but publisher Sony's upcoming drive-and-shoot crime actioner Gangs of London is actually descended from The Getaway, Sony's GTA -style action series for PS2. This time, however, the developers have done away with the pretense of playing as the good guys - instead of trying to clean up the streets, you're the ones doing the terrorizing. Actually, yes - that does say "ones" - it's plural. You don't just play as a single character. In fact, at any given ...

PSP News | Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Friday 12 May 2006 The original Tekken 5 arcade game had such high specs that it was quite a challenge getting it on to PSP but it's not just a mere port: for PSP we completely remade all the materials in the game. There will be 34 playable characters, each of which will have their own story with CG ending movies, including the two new characters Lili and Dragunov. We'll have all the modes of previous PS2 instalments of Tekken as well as some new ones. One of these is a ghost feature that ...

PSP News | Killzone: Liberation
It's no secret that first-person shooters are tough to do properly on PSP, thanks to a rather limited control scheme. So we're not surprised that developer Guerilla thought long and hard about how best to recreate its fps hit Killzone, originally a PS2 title, for the PSP. What did surprise us, in a very pleasant way, was the solution Guerilla came up with - switching to an isometric, third-person view - and how well the resulting game plays after such a drastic overhaul. The controls, thanks ...

PS3 News | Indiana Jones (next-gen)
Friday 12 May 2006 With a brand new George Lucas approved story, some seriously next-gen technology and Indy looking cool as ice, Indiana Jones 2007 (a working title) ought to bring any right-minded individual out in joyful jitters. We ducked backstage into LucasArts' demo area and got a first look at the game in full swing. We saw two levels - one showing off Indy's hand-to-hand skills and another on board a tram hurtling down the hills of San Francisco, circa 1939. The game features a system ...
