The original and terrifying new IP from EA cribs tricks from all the greats of survival horror's past, but manages to do it so well that it doesn't really matter. The action and controls are fantastic, and the atmosphere and monsters will get under your skin. We wish there was more of the original stuff, like the inventive Zero G sections, but we can live with this, since it might be the best game of this type since Resident Evil 4.

Sure, the Star Wars characters don't really belong here, but nonsense is the order of the day in Soulcalibur IV, and the game's better for it. New fighting mechanics, and a finely balanced roster round out the hugely satisfying package here. Forget the Virtua Fighter purists. This is the new king of fighters.

The Star Wars saga takes a dark turn in this third-person actioner, which takes place between the trilogies and casts you as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. This is a powerful story with delicious dark-side moves but has plenty of repetitive, mediocre action.

A classic, old-school Mega Man through and through, from the obscenely hard but ultimately rewarding difficulty to the infectious 8-bit tunes. For old-school gamers sick of rechargeable health meters and forgiving checkpoints, this is the kind of game you remember and love. As for the newbies out there, stick through the constant game over screens and you'll find a game that's about rock-solid gameplay more than next-gen technical wizardry.

This anti-GTA IV doesn't have the technical niceties (graphical hiccups abound) or Oscar-worthy story of Rockstar's magnum opus, but wins on pure fun factor and gleeful silliness. Co-op is huge fun and the character creation tools are immense. Score one for the Third Street Saints.
