What we think will happen...
There is, however, a more ambitious avenue Rockstar could choose to take. Have you thought of it yet?
What about a prequel?
It so fits.
A prequel, which sees you playing an entirely different person - maybe an incidental character (maybe a woman?) revealing some of the story of Liberty City before Niko arrives.
The more we think about it, the more logical it is:
1. It can be played at any point you are in the main game without messing with the space-time continuum.
2. It allows for further exposition of the existing characters' back stories.
3. It could be used as a device to fill in some of the gaps in Roman's story (like his arrival in Liberty City) if he was to appear as an incidental character, your new character could even do missions for/with him. A Neat touch would be to include him talking about his cousin Niko coming to Liberty City.
4. It gives the player a very different perspective on Liberty City maybe from the position of another gang or criminal organisation.
Adding further credence to the theory is Rockstar's treatment of the PSP titles Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories - both told new aspects of the original story from a different characters point of view in a prequel format.
So we reckon we've nailed it: GTA DLC will likely consist of a prequel with a new set of missions and a new central character. Now we've just got to wait until October to play it.
Strongly disagree? Think we've got it totally wrong? Got your own ideas? Let us know in the forum.
